The Barclays Premier League has come a long way this season and we are only remaining with a few games ton wrap it up. With the two teams from Manchester(champions Manchester united and their noisy neighbors ) having sealed their positions for a champions league spot next season, the other positions are up for grabs; the contenders being Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur football clubs.
At the moment, Chelsea is as good as part of the champions league next season. Chelsea came back from a goal down to seal their place in their controversial game on Saturday to win 2-1 against Aston villa. The game saw the teams’ play 10 aside after Ramires was booked twice and had to be sent off just before the half. Christian Benteke also saw himself sent off during the second half after a foul on John Terry. At the end of the 1st half Chelsea was 1-0 down but during the last half of the game, the legend Frank Lampard came to their rescue after striking twice. The legend broke all time record of bobby Tambling and hit 203 goals to become Chelsea’s all-time to scorer.
Tottenham kept their hopes alive to feature in the league also ranked 4th in BPL after a 2-1 win over Stoke City after a tight game yesterday. A goal from Nzonzi saw the home team take the lead in the 10th minute but dramatic goals from Dempsey and Emmanuel Adebayor saw the away team take the lead and keep their hopes alive. Only two points ahead of Arsenal who still have a game in hand, AVB is keen to make history if arsenal slip in any of the games.
Everton and Liverpool on the other hand won against Westham and Fulham respectively in a bid to ensure their places in the Europa league. A hat trick from Sturridge saw The Reds enjoy a 3-1 win over Fulham while Everton won 2-0. The already crowned champions were not left behind on the winning streak after a 2-1 win over Swansea. They are expected to get their new coach Moyes from Everton after Sir Alex announced his retirement earlier this week.
Their noisy neighbors (Manchester City) on the other end saw a rough weekend after losing in the FA cup finals against Wigan by solitary stoppage time goal from B. Watson. Luck was all away from them after being outplayed at the Wembley Stadium. Will Chelsea go the same way when they play Benfica on Wednesday or will they make history by holding both of the European’s cups for 10 days before the CL final? Let’s all wait and to see the wonders that never cease in football.
