Too Many Basic Errors; Duly Punished ~ By ANANDA Laban

Last weekend goes down as the most fateful to the Kenya Sevens team. It was the only time it failed to win a single match in the group stages. During the just concluded Glasgow IRB Sevens Series, Kenya fell to the beating of South Africa, Canada and the most humiliating one against Samoa where they lost 26 – 0.

After their match against Samoa, Coach Mike Friday stated to the media that, “Apologies to the 40M+ fans, that performance was not acceptable by the rugby team too many basic errors and we were duly punished. It’s as simple as that!”  We hope that team dully learnt their lesson as they head for the last leg in London.

Kenya played Australia in the Bowl final and lost 12-5. Something just to smile for Kenya is that they still rank among the ten top teams in the IRB rankings with over 77points which is lead by New Zealand with over 132 points.

Elsewhere in the Kenya Premier league, Sofapaka are still on top of the table with 17points after being held to a barren draw at Nyayo stadium by Kakamega Homboyz. Gor Mahia who tie in position four with Ulinzi stars on 14points, managed to secure a 2-0 win over lake side brothers Muhoroni Youth. The defending champions Tusker FC are lying 8th on 13 points after being held to a barren draw by Ulinzi Stars. The shock of the weekend came in as AFC Leopards suffered a 2-1 in the hands of City stars later on Sunday.

Overseas, the English champions continued to register poor results as they register a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Old Trafford. Juan Mata’s goal late on in the game, heaped pressure on champions league to the London clubs. Arsenal registered a win 1-0 over relegated Queens Park Rangers as Bale salvaged also a 1-0 win for Tottenham Hot Spurs against Southampton.

The Gunners hopes for Champions league playoff lies in the hand of their London rivals who clash horns this Wednesday. If Chelsea wins, Arsenal; survive considering t5hey win their remaining two fixtures, and if Tottenham wins, positions three and four remain hot cakes for the three London nemeses.

The Rafael’s Controversial send-off clearly outlines Webb’s ability to contain the 90mins of play as well as defining the fallacies fans have in relation to Manchester United and Webb. This season’s champion’s league final remains a Germany affair as Bayern Munchen face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley, next season’s English representation in the Champions league remains the Manchester and London affair.
